Play-Activities FAQs
Where do the Play-Activities come from?
Our Play-Activities are a mixture of old and new ideas, read from books, passed down through the generations by parents and grandparents, and developed by teachers and other professionals. Some of the activities you may remember fondly from your childhood fun and games that kept you happy and amused for ages. If it was good then it will be even better now when you share it with your own child.
How do the Play-Activities benefit me and my child?
The point of these activities is that you take a moment each day to slow down from the pressures of living. Instead you work and play with your child. They’ll love it and you’ll catch a glimpse again of what it’s like to really play. You are, of course, training your child’s young mind and they’ll just eat up all that positive attention. You’ll enjoy it too, taking the time to spend real quality time having fun with your child.
In addition, cultivating a strong, close relationship with your child when they are young reaps huge rewards as they progress through childhood. Children love the attention and they are more likely to come to you and ask questions, tell you things, and heed your advice if an early relationship has been established based on positive experiences of fun and play in the early years. There is also the likelihood of a transfer effect, of getting to know your child more and tuning into them discovering all their ways and quirks.
How do I choose a Play-Activity?
Our Play-Activities cover a wide range of topics, and each day you will receive a different activity in your inbox which may be something familiar to you, or may be something new. We know that many people will have a preference for particular kinds of activity, eg physical games or arts and crafts, but to try and overcome this we have deliberately designed the daily email so you will not know what kind of activity it contains until you open it! And once you’ve opened it and read it, we hope you will feel encouraged and inspired to try it, even if it is not something you would normally choose to do. Try to look at the activities from your child’s viewpoint, as the idea here is to spend time with your child doing a mixture of activities - new and old, physical and creative, but always fun!
Are these Play-Activities educational?
At Play-activities our primary aim is to get parents and children playing and having fun together. Naturally the activities are educational each one is developmentally appropriate, requires adult input, and contains a mixture of language, gross and fine motor skills, problem-solving and personal and emotional elements. Also, the activities are generally open-ended for you to adapt to fit your situation and offer some ideas for extension. In addition, each activity contains a “Good for” section that offers a guide to the relevant developmental issues, for those that need to keep an eye on certain areas.
But always keep in mind that although the educational value of each activity is important, the ultimate goal is to enjoy playing with your child, to try new activities, and to have really good fun!
